A Short History Of The Motorcycle

Todays bicycles are everywhere and there are a lot of different types or types of bikes too.

They were actually focusing more on the engine which was set up to power the two-wheeled contraption and not so much on developing a new type of automobile, but the consequent impact on motorized travel will be enormous. There were earlier versions of steam powered bikes, but this was the first oil powered motorcycle.

Not long afterward in 1894 the very first production motorcycle went available as the Hildebrand & Wolfmüller bicycle. It wasn’t long after that before a number of the bicycle companies of the time got into the action and began selling variations of what was essentially motorized bicycles. However, because horsepower increased, the motors started to outgrow the bicycle frames that were used as their own carriage.

The hottest motorcycle company before World War 1 was Indian motorcycle. After the war, Harley Davidson took over the number one spot until 1928 when DKW became the major motorcycle manufacturer in the world. In the past few years some of the older bicycle manufacturers such as the Indian have regained popularity with Harley Davidson being the strongest by far.
